    Thanks to “The Lab”

    Studio 659 would like to thank the comic book creators known as The Lab for a wonderful open panel discussion last night. Members include Adam Farster – “Humalien”, Jack Gonzalez – “Last Unicorn”, Julio Guerra – “Super Dead Beat Dad”, and Ben Miller – “Judges”. This free and all ages discussion included talks about: Comics, The art form, Writing, Self publishing, Kickstarter, Conventions, Their latest projects, and How to break into the industry. After the open question answer period the authors offered their works for purchase. Blog this!     Sand Castle/Sculpting Competition, June 25 at 7:00 a.m.: “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea”

    To help celebrate our Lakefront community, a Sand Sculpting Competition will be held on 25 June 2016. The competition will be hosted by the Whiting Arts Council in conjunction with the City of Whiting. The goal of the event is to bring visitors and the community together to celebrate a morning of sculpting sand at Whihala Beach. We anticipate that this will be the inaugural event of an annual competition. Guidelines Registration table will be located between the beach and boat launch near the 117th Street entrance.     AWESOME EVENT Coming to Studio 659

    Check out the new event coming to Studio 659 Opening before Pierogi Fest for six weeks. Are you a Photographer? Dust off your lens and get shooting. Building on the growing success of Whiting’s Pierogi Fest, this year the city will team up with The Times Media Co. on a new event — a photo contest. Photographers from Northwest Indiana are invited to photograph St. John the Baptist Church at 1849 Lincoln Ave. in Whiting. The submitted photos will be hung in Studio 659 located at 1413 119th St., and will be judged by Times photographers Jonathan Miano, John Watkins and Damian Rico.
