“Images of Whiting” Call for Art

In conjunction with the City of Whiting’s 125th Anniversary celebrations, Studio 659 is hosting an “Images of Whiting” show and competition. Three awards will be presented.

Theme: “Images of Whiting” will celebrate the people, places and experiences that make Whiting IN a unique and wonderful place to live, work and play.

Artwork: Submitted images must be original paintings, drawings or photographs. Each artist is limited to submitting a total of three (3) images. Work must be wired 1/3 of the way from the top. Artwork which is not wired or not wired properly will not be hung, and will be ineligible for awards. No substitutions of submissions. The gallery reserves the right to decline any accepted artwork upon delivery if the condition or quality is other than represented in the submission.

Fees: This show does have a submission fee. $10/for members & residents of the 46394 Zip Code; $20/for non-members and non-residents. Not yet a member? Join! Individual membership is $25 and family memberships are $30 for the year. Fees can be paid online at www.studio659.org

Pricing: The Studio retains a 30% commission; please factor this into your retail pricing.

Awards: There will be three awards associated with this show. Judge’s decisions are final.

$200 Mayor’s Prize. Mayor Joe Stahura will award the image that best represents the spirit of the community.

$100 Judge’s Prize. Artist Dawn Diamantopoulos will award the image that most fully realizes artistic vision.

$100 People’s Choice. For $1, anyone can cast a single vote (with no limit on the number of votes per person). The piece of art with the most votes at the end of the month will be awarded the People’s Choice prize. Voting proceeds will be used to support Studio 659 operations and classes.

Notifications: Mayor’s and Judge’s Prize winners will be notified at the gallery opening on Friday, 11 July, at 6:59pm. The People’s Choice winner will be notified at the close of the show after 26 July 2014. All awardees (and their winning works) will be recognized on the Studio 659 facebook page.

Delivery: Work must be hand-delivered during regular Studio hours 13 June-5 July.

Artwork pick up: 1 Aug, during opening, 2 Aug, 7 through 9 August, or 14 through 16 August, during regular Studio hours.
